As a senior at Millersville University, I wrote a thesis for Departmental Honors in the English department. In my thesis, I analyze the rhetoric used by conservative news media, namely Fox News, and Republican politicians in their discourse on the Central American migrant caravan that occurred in late 2018. In my analysis, I bridged the gap between my major, Writing Studies, and minor, Government and Political Affairs. My goal was to highlight the use of emotionally stimulating rhetoric in political discourse and show how this kind of rhetoric can impact public opinion on political issues.
